A show I produced and directed, "Backstage at the Cotton Club," was nominated for a national Emmy years ago. It was one of dozens of television specials I've done on movies and popular culture. I have also videotaped works by many modern dancers including Baryshnikov, Streb, Choo San Goh, Paul Taylor. I consider modern dancers walking expert systems on human animation, and I have turned to them for several technology collaborations. I developed a 3D modeling and human animation system for the web based on Labanotation, the notation system used to record modern dance on paper, and I've created online 3D environments for Jewel, the Chili Peppers, U2 and all the PolyGram labels. I've worked with Stephen King, Clive Barker, and over 100 horror film notables in creating, producing, directing a television series and a string of specials for the NBC O&Os, MTV, VH1, USA and first-run broadcast syndication. I collect contemporary art and have published signed limited editions of prints by contemporary masters. I put together the Artists for American Indians exhibition at the World's Fair in Seville, with contributions from Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg, Jacob Lawrence, Sam Francis, Marisol and others. When the Baghdad Museum was looted I created the Baghdad Museum Project online which got me speaking engagements on Middle Eastern television networks and at many Iraq Reconstruction summits. An Internet monitoring program that I wrote helped clean up the sale of illegal Mesopotamian artifacts on eBay, and even uncovered a new type of scam perpetrated on the eBay community in general. I'm attracted to causes where I can make a difference as an early mover. I created an international public-private response team to address the threat of a bird flu pandemic, and so far have led 3 international bird flu summits pulling together hundreds of doctors and medical leaders from around the world, and I have worked with the ABC O&Os to design the only national mass media pandemic alert system currently ready to activate. I am always looking for large-scale global projects that promote social progress. I am very fond of taking on projects that seem impossible and giving them a jackrabbit start. I hope we can meet sometime and find common ground, a common cause. I come into contact with a lot of brilliant leaders who would love to work with filmmakers devoted to a high public purpose. |

We would like to reopen the Dreamland Theatre on Nantucket, Summer 2008, with a stage production of The Threepenny Opera that draws from the original 1928 stage sensation by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, as well as the 1931 German film version, Die Dreigroschenoper, directed by G.W. Pabst. The Dreamland Theatre is one of the oldest movie theaters in the world, dating back to 1904. When it reopens, it will most likely represent the cultural heart and soul of Nantucket Island. It will have a 400-seat theater for movies and stage performances, a restaurant, a bistro, and over 10,000 square feet of conference space upstairs. Of course, we hope the Dreamland will reestablish itself as an important venue for the Nantucket Film Festival, and we would like it to be the home of an international film market as well, along the lines of MIP or the Cannes Film Market. |
