Jean-François Charles is a composer, clarinetist, and live electronics designer. In 2003, he was invited by Karlheinz Stockhausen to play for the premiere and studio recording of “Rechter Augenbrauentanz.”
From 2001 to 2005, he was the leader of the “Ensemble New Flore”, a group of creative music featuring percussion, double bass, clarinet, dance and live electronics.
He likes to explore the relations between music and dance: he has been composing a series of pieces for dancing musicians.
In 2007-2008, he is conducting the Dudley House Jazz Orchestra. Jean-François and composer and trumpetist Nicolas Sidoroff will co-compose a score to be played live with the movie “Man With a Movie Camera” on April 27th, 2008.
He is currently a PhD candidate in composition at Harvard University.
