Starting his career in television production in 1979, Ken became a cameraman at CNN in 1980 and moved to London, England in 1981 to cover news events throughout Europe. In 1982 during the height of the Israeli Invasion of Lebanon, Ken joined NBC News and became the staff cameraman in the Beirut Bureau covering the war in Lebanon and filming events throughout the Middle East. While in Lebanon Ken won his first National Press Photographers Award (NPPA).
In 1984 Ken relocated to the Soviet Union and was witness to the major changes that took place there while continuing to be a staff NBC cameraman. In 1986 Ken moved back to the United States and began studying and honing his camera skills. Based in Washington, DC he Freelanced with television companies from around the world including the BBC, TF1, ARD German TV and TV3 Spain.
As a Freelancer Ken was exposed to production outside of the news realm and began working on projects that required proficient and artistic lighting skills. These projects included Documentary, Corporate and Commercial productions.
In 1988 Ken was offered the position of Chief Photographer for a new long format magazine style show. Accepting the job he moved to Boston, MA. While with World Monitor Ken filmed stories all over the world with a concentration on Central and
South America. Ken won his second NPPA Award for filming done in Peru.
In 1992 Ken began Freelancing again. His client list is quite extensive with a majority of his work in the Documentary field. Known as a Director of Photography with extensive international credentials, many clients seek his work for their worldwide projects. He has since worked in the Far East (National Geographic) and in Africa (Grenada Television).
Since 1992 Ken has won numerous awards for his camerawork including a third NPPA Award (2000 Documentary PBS) and several regional Emmy Awards for Videography including a Personal Achievement for Cinematography Award (2000). He has also been nominated for several National Emmys and won a National Emmy in 2003 for Public Service for the documentary “No Greater Love” about organ donation and transplantation shown on PBS nationally.
Ken recently had a PSA filmed for Alcoholics Anonymous running twice an hour on the giant NBC screen in Times Square, New York City. He just finished working on a documentary about Hepatitis C and another on the Fiftieth Anniversary of Organ
Transplantation. They are due to air nationally on PBS shortly. |
