Jill Poisson: This twenty seven year old director hopes to do two things with her work 1: Entertain and 2: Provoke Thought. Media has become one of the biggest influences on society, if not the biggest. It tells us what to wear, what to eat and very often what to think. Jill Poisson hopes to use the Media to not make society think her way but rather just think. Have a dialogue, have an option and perhaps change things for the better. She believes this can be done without being preachy but just simply telling a story. One of her biggest influences is the film Crash (Written and Directed by Paul Haggis). Crash not only gives an audience a deep story about people living in L.A. but also makes us think about what do we think about people by just looking. Do we question their motives based on race, sex, age, religion and perceived orientation? These thoughts provoked may change a person's point of view forever or perhaps just once. But at the very least it starts that process of thought.
Jill Poisson is influenced by such directors as Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou), Len Wiseman (Under World, Live Free or DIE HARD), Joss Whedon (Serenity, Firefly), Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy), Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs, KILL BILL) , Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smokin Aces), Michael Moore (Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11), Paul Haggis (Crash, The Black Donnellys), Gore Verbinski (Weather Man, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), Robert Rodriguez (Le Mariachi, Sin City), and Robert Zemeckis (Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (The first movie I ever saw with my Nana).
The most surprising thing about this list is NOT ONE of the Directors that influence Jill is a woman. Jill hopes to remedy this.
