Silas holds a doctorate in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island and will be teaching Psychology at Tufts University in the fall of 2008.
Parallel to his life in academia, has been his life as a performer.
He was inducted into the world martial arts hall of fame and has been running his own school (within the Cape Verdean and Brazilian Cultural Center of RI) for 8 years.
He has also been the director of GRUPO ONDAS VIAJANTES, a traveling group of dancers, actors, martial artists, and acrobatics for the past 3 years. The center focuses on martial arts, film and music production, and theater.
