Bio:
Adam “Ace” Spencer is uniquely talented and his diligence and accomplishments have been inspired by greats such as Jessie Owens, Marlon Riggs, Cab Calloway, Hype Williams and Walter Payton. He is extremely active in the Massachusetts community and strives to enjoy life to the fullest through his passion for sports, music and video production.
Adam is an 80’s baby and the youngest of six. Adam’s mother left the inner-city and chose to raise Adam and two of his older brothers in a housing complex in Wellesley, Massachusetts, because, as one of the state’s wealthiest towns, Wellesley is well-known for its exceptional school system. With only his mother to support all of their financial needs, they certainly struggled at times. However, they always managed to overcome the adversity. Adam views his mother as his greatest inspiration, because she taught him to work hard and fight for his beliefs while staying humble and appreciative. Guided by these values, Adam dedicated his time to school, working and playing sports and his demeanor was such that he was always well-liked by everyone he met.
Growing up Adam was always working various jobs or running around the neighborhood with his friends playing sports. Although he loved sports in general, Adam truly excelled in football and track and field. During the home opener for the Wellesley High football team, Adam, a senior captain, had an interception and scored two touchdowns, one for 45 yards and another for 96, which is among the longest in school history. Also a captain on the track team, Adam was part of the former 4x100 and 4x400 relay record teams, and he still holds the 200, 400, and 600 meter records at Wellesley High School.
However, at the same time he was experiencing abundant success in high school sports, Adam first got involved with video and music production. After acting in a classmate’s film and taking both a music and video introduction course, he knew he had found a field he could truly succeed in and enjoy.
In 2003 Adam graduated from Wellesley High School with ample recognition as a student athlete; he was awarded the Outstanding Student Athlete Award as well as other honors. He decided to continue his education at a prestigious liberal art college, Bates College, in Lewiston, Maine. While at Bates he continued to excel in track and Field, placing 3rd at both the NESCAC Championships and the New England Division 3 Championships in the 400 meters. He also earned a spot as one of the top ten all time best 400 meter runners in Bates College history by running a personal best of 49.09 as a freshman. Due to the time commitment required to play football at the college level, Adam opted to play rugby instead. As a club sport rugby allowed him to continue being active in sports but also become more involved with other clubs and organizations, like Amandla and the community radio station, WRBC, and focus on his classes where he was maintaining a B average.
While at WRBC he started off as a DJ playing everything from jazz to reggae but focused on rap and hip hop. During his second semester Adam continued to DJ but also took on an archivest position. It was during his sophomore year that Adam became more serious about rugby and also became the rap and hip hop music director at WRBC. This was a unique and exciting position because it allowed him the opportunity to network and speak directly to record labels all around the world.
As a result of tight finances as well as a lack of opportunities to network within the entertainment industry at Bates, Adam decided to take a break from school after his sophomore year and took a job working part time with the Boston Globe. It was then that Adam decided to make a documentary series on the Massachusetts rap and hip hop scene.
Currently Adam is working for CBS Sports, MaxPreps. In addition to this, he plans to play rugby for the Boston Irish Wolfhounds Rugby Club, as well as continue to concentrate on his music production career.
