Boston Media Makers May 6th Meeting

Today was the first time that I attended the Boston Media Makers meeting in Jamaica Plain. They hold these meetings the first Sunday of every month at Sweet Finnish at 10am.

It was worth the trek and early rising to say the least.

Steve Garfield is the organizer of the group. When he isn't working with this group he is a leader in the videoblogging racket. Boston Media Makers is a group focused on New Media that brings all kinds of people interested in the videoblogging, and other related technologies.

Credit for the photo is due to Steve Garfield, who's photostream of the whole event can be engaged in glorious technicolor.

The whole event was streamed live to the Internet using ustream.tv and half of the discussion was also recorded. Plentiful discussions of the cutting edge of film and video. An excellent once-a-month event to learn what is happening and will be soon happening in the new frontier.

Pictures from the Boston Underground Film Festival Fundraiser on Friday

User Rating: / 0

I would guess that I am in good company when I say that I am still recovering from the sleep deprivation that Friday night left me with.  On Friday, the Boston Underground Film Festival team threw a party at Dave Lewis' house to raise funds to keep the fest going.

You can imagine the crowd attending an event with interest in:  underground film, sultry lounge music, belly dancing and an abundance of liquid party favors.  If you weren't having a  good time there, you should just end it all now.

That said, enjoy the photos and we will let you know about the next event worth checking out.

Updates on RSVPing for BUFF party (important)

So more good news. BUFF 2007 sponsor Dewars has donated some product for tonight's event. In addition to Harpoon beer, and wine (from Cantina Bostonia and Best Cellars) we will now have Dewars and soda, on the rocks, or neat! Also- we have added a new bellydancer to tonight's entertainment- her name is Peridata and she is a student of Attar Mellea and will be performing a fusion piece.

If you have RSVP'd "yes" your name will be at the door and you are guaranteed entrance. So if you are planning to come RSVP (especially if you plan to come late) so you won't be turned away.

Our Networking Event on Tuesday April 24th

User Rating: / 0

So, The networking event was alot of fun.  Though personally, I spent alot of time flipping through name tags :)

We filled the whole left bar of the Tavern in the Square restaraunt in Central Square, Cambridge.

In between the organizing I got to meet some great people.

Carol Patton of Imagine Magazine made an appearance to tell us about the uprising of the New England Film movement.

DSC00006DSC00005 Aaron Howland (who is getting some awesome groups up and running on the site [in the "groups" section if you were not aware) made an announcement about the upcoming Boston Motion Picture Awards getting ready for submissions (search his name to get the link to the site or talk w/ him personally)

Beth Curran let Beanywood members know about some of the upcoming screenings for the Chlotrudis Society.

I finally got to meet Steve Garfield in the flesh after being a member of the Boston Media Makers online community.

Steve  invited filmmakers to check out the Boston Media Makers site.  They have meetings the first Sunday of every month.  (check out this months meeting at Sweet Finnish in JP on the 6th at 10am)

I also met Ned Scannell for the first time.  He is looking for opportunities to screen his newly completed film "The Color of Cannibals"

Rod Webber announced that he is looking for crew and background actors for his feature film "Monkfish" which will complete production this summer.

If any of the announcements sound interesting search the names that were mentioned in reference.  Also, let me know if you are interested in helping organize the next one!!!

Let me know any feedback you had this time around!
