DOUGLAS. PRODUCTION BLOG #1
Current mood: calm

So:

-we are done casting the main roles, now onto background actors and extras, but that can be on the backburner for a bit, we don't need them until end of May

-we are setting up a big script read through at the beginning of June for all key roles and personnel minus Adam just to get a feel of length, flow, and start working on lighting setups

-looks like we won't need to spend much on lighting as our key grip has a bunch of seriously good lighting gear, but we have to find out exactly what he has and what we will need to acquire

-we need tattoo cream... lots of it.

-we need a new art director/props person/and sound department

-my friend John Carr is getting involved... YAY!!! Me and Mike G are very pleased about this. That kid brings the stability a small budget production needs.

-we are looking for: a rolling hanger for wardrobe, coffee urns, big serving plates and utensils, two folding tables for crafts services, donations of somewhat healthy and not super sugary snacks for crew and cast, a rolling cart for a "mobile office", more gaffing tape than any one human should ever need, coffee mugs, nalgenes, paper plates, paper cups, WATER, coolers, stuff for a medical kit, power strips, extension cords, possibly walkie talkies, bag chairs, and a million other things

-the shooting schedule is almost set, but of course it will be revised a bit after I am finally done with 5th draft. It's just cool to start getting a feel for what the schedule will be like. Mike and Fritz broke down the script last night and its interesting for me, as the screenwriter, to see them go through my scenes and determine which ones will go on which days. I know its wicked amateur to get a bit of a thrill out of that, but knowing that the fight scene between doug and mary is a full day shoot is kind of mindblowing to me, since its so small on paper (I didn't realize that this scene in the 5th draft is 8-9 pages long!)

-I wrote a 3-4 page treatment on this, it's an abridged version that doesn't give away the ending, strictly meant for investors and the like. I've never done a treatment before and its interesting seeing my whole script summarized in prose form.

-fiscal sponsorship - holy crap - tax deductible donations are awesome, I'm glad this state reintroduced tax breaks for film productions and I'm glad we can do this sponsorship thing, because it will help us a lot in terms of fundraising.

-absolutely looking forward to the string of benefit events coming up: May 5th yardsale at Papercut, May 13th Horror Movie Marathon at Papercut, May 18th benefit show at the Middle East Downstairs (featuring Robby Roadsteamer, Adam Glasseye & the Insect Fable, World's Greatest Sinners, A.K.A.C.O.D., and the band I'm in, Red Tide At Dawn)

Alright, I'll be down in Austin, TX this weekend rehearsing the ACTOR. More updates when I get home.

love,
-Michelle "Mothra" Millette-
Director/Writer - Douglas.
