If you're someone who routinely writes great blogs, your new postings will appear listed on the top right of the front page for the whole world to see.
This means basically if your posts get rated highly, get many comments, people recommend you from the Contact Us link, or if by the whim of the powers-to-be members of the the core team really enjoys your style, you get that substantially added exposure.
This is an effort to promote blogs that have valuable and interesting content. It should be noted that standard announcements should just be posted in their expected locations - events should also go to the calendar, and casting calls to the forums. If there's more than an announcement, a weblog is a good idea.
Everyone's blogs appear when you touch the Official Blog button, but only selected authors appear on the top right of the front page. We think everyone has the skills to write intriguing posts - it just takes the effort.
