The sixth annual Independent Film Festival of Boston has opened its call for entries. The festival will be taking place April 23-29, 2008 at the Somerville Theatre, Brattle Theatre, and Coolidge Corner Theatre along with other venues to be announced. IFFBoston is looking for narrative features, documentary features, short films, animation, experimental films, new-england made or themed films (for our New England Focus section) horror, twisted, sci-fi & kung-fu films (for our IFFB After Dark section), and New England sports films (to be considered for airings with new partner New England Sports Network in addition to being considered for the festival).

There will be a minimum of 9 awards handed out at the festival with up to $20,000 worth of prizes. There will be over 80 films, over 125 screenings, nightly parties, and weekend panel discussions. Over 23,000 people attended the 2007 festival and we have big plans for 2008 and are expecting even bigger crowds.

Past guests of the festival include Steve Buscemi, Chris Cooper, John Waters, Lili Taylor, Illeana Douglas, Bill Pullman, Melvin Van Peebles, Ted Hope, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Danny Huston, Noam Chomsky, Albert Maysles, Bernie Worrell, Dylan Baker, Jesse Eisenberg, Eliza Dushku, James Urbaniak, Bob Odenkirk, Fred Armisen, Robert Vaughn, and Rob Corddry.

In addition to the celebs, the festival has hosted the top filmmakers on the indie & festival circuit including Andrew Bujalski (Mutual Appreciation), Joe Swanberg (Hannah takes the Stairs), Arin Crumley & Susan Buice (Four Eyed Monsters), Mark Duplass (The Puffy Chair), Aaron Katz (Quiet City), Alex Karpovsky (The Hole Story), Ondi Timoner (Dig!), and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson) as well as important industry connections such as Matt Dentler (SXSW Film Festival), Jonathan Marlow (Green Cine), Sarah Eaton (Sundance Channel), Danielle DiGiacomo (IndiePix), Ben Campbell (OurStage), and many others.

Early submission deadline: Sept.30
Regular submission deadline: Dec.31
Late submission deadline: Jan.31

Submissions are now being accepted via Withoutabox at http://www.withoutabox.com/login/4048 . If you would like to submit directly (not using Withoutabox) the submission form should be up on the website by August 18th.

In addition to all the above mentioned, the Independent Film Festival of Boston is looking for short films to fill out shorts blocks in the following categories:
- experimental
- animation
- documentary
- narrative comedy
- narrative drama
- horror
- New England themes/ NE filmmakers

We are now accepting submissions directly through the festival website at http://www.iffboston.org and through Withoutabox at http://www.withoutabox.com/login/4048 . Here's what a few of the festival's attendees have had to say about IFFBoston:

The Independent Film Festival of Boston has become the major game in town: a smartly programmed and risk-taking festival that balances "big" indie films with the best in local filmmaking.
- Ty Burr, Boston Globe

IFFBoston has redefined the term "filmmaker friendly" for every producer, director, editor, cinematographer, composer and actor that has been lucky enough to experience the festival. The audiences are passionate and intelligent, which is every filmmaker's dream.
- Joe Swanberg, director of HANNAH TAKES THE STAIRS

The annual Independent Film Festival of Boston has accomplished more in its five-year history than some festivals do with twice as much time and resources.
- Matt Dentler, Indiewire

Definitely one of the best-run film festivals I have been to.
- Bob Odenkirk, director of MELVIN GOES TO DINNER

Though the word "independent" sometimes connotes 'small', its clear that the Independent Film Festival of Boston is THE premiere film festival in the Boston area. From a distributor's standpoint, it's important that a festival handle a film with a certain degree of professionalism and attention to detail. IFFBoston's focus on presenting dynamic, quality films and treating each screening as an event both meets and exceeds those expectations.
- Brad Westcott, Magnolia Pictures

Thanks for reading. Look forward to seeing your films and to seeing you all in April.
