I recently represented the small independent filmmaker on a panel at the filmmaker's collaborative Making Media Now conference. I was honored to be part of the panel and really believe that a filmmaker interested short comedy can learn from my experience. I must say, however, thatthe other panelists had some ideas and models that were quite intriguing. I think the video of the panel is available on the site and should be watched. Now, to be sure...you can't explain five years of work in ten minutes...so you won't get everything from their presentation. You'll get a spark. But if you do your research and chase down some more information, there is a lot to be learned. Pick the one presenter who best suits your goals (the four on the panel were all vastly different). I'm dedicating a whole evening to that this coming weekend. I'll blog more about it later.
And thanks to Jen and Bonnie for putting it together. I'm sure it was a monster to organize. Thanks to Larry and the other panelists for taking part in it with me. It was only my second panel ever...and I was sick with the flu...so I felt in slo-motion for most of it. I think I'm going to do a private workshop at some point.
