It is easy to notice that at least half the time movie critics and audiences disagree. You watch a movie that shakes to the core, you come out with sweat beads wrapped around your eyebrows, and are about to call all your friends and burst ecstatic... and then you pass by the newspaper stand and seea movie critic describing it the worse thing since At Long Last Love.

Some blame Stars Wars for having caused the split between commercial and critical acclaim decades ago, but that's another story. The question is how is one to avoid the bombs, without paying disproportionate attention to the tastes of critics?

Meet Spout.com . Spout is a social networking site that gives you movie recommendations based on the reviews you write yourself, your picks, and what your "friends" pick, and the "experts" you choose. However, here you can choose to join genre groups like Horror or Comedy, and so on. Unlike the Beanywood groups which are focused on creating in that particular genre, this is about groups that represent the genres you enjoy.

I notice that one of the tags associated with it is "imaginative," and by clicking on it, I see a whole other slew of movies (Eternal Sunshine, Amelie, The Neverending Story) that I know I enjoyed for the same reason. Other tags for that movie include Magic, Spain, Gorgeous, Children, Fairy, Amazing, Fantasy, War, LOVED-IT, and LOVE... and each of those opens a new... errr... labyrinth of possibilities.

Other features include:

Moviemind: This is like the Netflix recommendation feature where you rate movies and it gives you recommendations, except that you can drag-n-drop films into various containers such as rottentomatoes (to see what serious movie critics thought about it), or amazon.com (to buy it).

Netflix: It lets you auto-add your recommended movies directly to your Netflix queue, so that you may do nothing more every day than watch your favorite pics.
