I saw Director Rob Zombie's Film "The Devils Rejects" and I saw there was a lot of photography used on the sets and during the film. Gene Page , the photographer on this film has a roster of close to fifty films under his belt. Still photography does have a place in the arena ofmotion pictures and the world of performing arts. The job description for a still photographer is

Still Photographer

AKA: Stills Photographer
A person who photographs the action (often alongside the camera) to be used in publicizing the movie.

This has incredible value.

This link has some nice info about set or "Unit" Photographers

Agreed! Filmmakers often overlook the importance (necessity, in fact) of having a still photographer working on their productions. Filmmakers often say things such as, "Let's just get the movie made," or, "I've got more important things to do than worry about paying for a photographer." A few months down the road, though, it's time to start building press kits, sending out press releases, submitting to festivals, printing posters, and marketing to distributors. What happens next? A lot screaming, panicking, and running around in circles before resigning to the fact that you're going to have to live with stills pulled from the movie, itself. Man, can that be a mess...
