Since January, I've been working on "Sons of Perdition" for Richard Chandler Productions, and I have got to tell you I haven't been this excited about a project in a long time. Richard Chandler is one of the best producers in indie film today. He put together a cast and crew that's not only competent and talented but fun to be with as well. Today we wrapped on our 16th day of shooting with just two more to go. Today we shot the big climax (minus the shots from special effects day). I don't want to give too much away, but David Simon, the actor playing Satan, really blew me away. Not to say that the rest of the cast wasn't awesome because they are, but just the looks on his face were so evil looking, and the line delivery had a lot of great energy, he really nailed the part to say the least. Also, be on the lookout for my forklift-cam shot. I stood on the front fork of a forklift and rode it while doing a handheld shot. So much fun I wanted to do 100 takes, but we had a tight schedule that we managed to adhere to rather well. Even the best laid plans of a great producer are subject to Murphy's Law, but we caught up in the home stretch and even got a break as we waited for the sun to set so night shoot could begin. For the night shoot, we only had a few shots, but temperatures were starting to drop well below 20 degrees with the wind chill, we had just gotten a nor'easter which dumped close to a foot of snow in the area, which ended with a nice layer of sleet and ice. The result was the outside area becoming a solid sheet of ice, and me wearing my comfy-yet-worn-out sneakers with the hole in the side and no traction on the bottom. We got out there, set a few fires, rolled some footage, and even ripped someone's heart out. Fun times were had for all! A long day to say the least, we rolled two full hours of raw footage. Sons of Perdition is really going to be incredible, I can't wait to cut it together!
