I'm back safe and sound from the southern hemisphere and had the most awesome experience there learning about apartheid, the new South Africa, and the power of reconciliation.

This Saturday the world premiere of our short documentary about Uganda is taking place. Here are some details taken from the website http://www.nscmc.org/Events.htm

Saturday, June 23rd at 7:00pm - The North Shore Christian Men’s Choir, in partnership with World Vision International, will be hosting a "Rebuilding Lives" Community Concert at the the Fuller School Auditorium, Blackburn Circle, Gloucester, MA to support World Vision by bringing attention to the tragedy of child enslavement in rebel armies.

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities world wide. Founded in 1950 to support orphans of the Korean War, World Vision focuses their efforts in support of children and provides relief to over 100 million people in 99 countries. Eighty seven percent of all income goes directly to relief efforts.

The concert will feature music by the Men's Choir and you will see and hear the following presentations:

  • Grace Akallo, author of the book Girl Soldier, will give personal testimony of her captivity to armed rebels of the Lord’s Resistance Army, a violent rebel group operating in northern Uganda. As reported in Christianity Today, she will describe her abduction and subsequent escape as she encourages us to intercede and assist World Vision in its work to end the tragic conditions there.

  • Hope for Uganda, a premier documentary by filmmaker Steve Baldwin, is a story of improbable triumph in the face of unimaginable tragedy. It is the heartbreaking true story of former child soldiers recovering from the horrors of war in the Acholi homeland of northern Uganda. This 15 minute documentary chronicles the visitation by World Vision donors to Gulu Uganda and the amazing stories they heard there firsthand. Shot in December 2006, this documentary puts a human face to a horrible situation.

The Men’s Choir & World Vision present this concert as a "suggested donation" fundraising event to support both organizations in their efforts to help rebuild lives around the world.

This sounds like a great event. I'd like to find ways for the local film community to get more involved in social issues and events.
