PO Box 1593, Lawrence MA 01842 http://www.MilliesMovie.com MILLIES MOVIE TAKES TO THE STAGE FOR TRAILS & SAILS AND ARTSFEST 2008 LAWRENCE, MA (June 27, 2008) – Filmmaker Lorre Fritchy will adapt a scene from her upcoming feature film MILLIES, to be performed on-stage as a special event for Essex Nat’l Heritage Commission’s Trails & Sails weekend, and in conjunction with ArtsFest Merrimack Valley September 26-28, 2008. MILLIES tells the story of a troubled group of mill girls who return from 1912 to convince a bankrupt mill owner that *her* future is the key to *their* past. Because the story is inspired by a famous Lawrence event (nicknamed the “Bread & Roses” textile strike), Fritchy felt it was a perfect opportunity to link the film to the mills in a unique way. After each Sat/Sun show, Lawrence Heritage State Park will conduct a walking tour of strike-related sites in the historic canal district. “Going from the stage to the streets seemed like a perfect way to connect MILLIES with the authentic sites that inspired the story,” said Fritchy. “And it is a creative twist on what Trails & Sails and ArtsFest are all about.” Players from Acting Out Theater Company (www.actingout.biz) will perform “Millies: Playing With A Movie” at their Stage, 60 Island Street, Lawrence. Shows will run Friday, September 26 at 6:30pm and 7:30pm; and Saturday/Sunday, September 27/28 at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. A question & answer session with the filmmaker will follow each performance. “Millies: Playing With A Movie” had its test-run at the 34th Annual Bread & Roses Labor Day event commemorating the 1912 strike, and was hailed by the Eagle Tribune as a “highlight” of the festival. Fritchy’s company MasterPeace Productions has created award-winning films now for sale in national distribution, “Sandy ‘Spin’ Slade: Beyond Basketball” (through National Film Network, http://www.nationalfilmnetwork.com) and “The Gay Marriage Thing” (through The Cinema Guild, http://www.thecinemaguild.com). MILLIES continues to seek funding and in-kind services for the film’s full production, tentatively scheduled for 2009.
