BACKGROUND:
The 48 Hour Film Project is built on the premise of giving film-making teams just one weekend to make a short film. According to their rules, all creativity—writing, shooting, editing and adding a musical soundtrack—must occur in a 48 hour window beginning Friday evening at 7 and ending Sunday at 7. It's fun, it's fast, and a fantastic opportunity to get work out and become better. The following week, the completed films are screened to large audiences. The event has been very successful in the past, and 45,000 people have already participated since the start of the project.

PARTNERSHIP: Now, The 48 Hour Film Project in Providence, RI and Beanywood - The Site of the New England Film Movement - are collaborating for a completely new approach. Aside from the already built teams, of finite size, on the weekend of the event, the registered film-makers will be able to use Beanywood's tools to find exactly the talent they're looking down to precise characteristics, and also discover fresh locations using the Virtual Scouting database. This is great news if you're interested in being in film - whether as an actor, writer, make-up artist, crew, and on.

IF YOU'RE PART OF ONE OF THE TEAMS:

Before the event, please make sure to familiarize yourself with at least two of the major tools in the site:
  • Finding talent: Simply click the People button available above almost every page. This will open a Power Search function and you can use it to find actors, musicians, additional camera people, and so on based on almost any imaginable criteria. People who are really committed to participating have selected "Yes" to a a field that says "Want to searchable by teams in the upcoming 48 HR Film Project? ?". On the day of the event their phone numbers will be available on their profiles.
  • Finding interesting locations: Simply click on the Locations button available above almost every page. You'll see a listing of potential locations shot with Virtual Reality Quick Time Panospins. More and more will be available before the event. Feel free to check them out to give you a sense of new sites you may not have considered. One week to the event, info on the permissions to shoot there, and who to call, etc. will be made available.

IF YOU ARE TALENT AND WANT TO PARTICIPATE:
  • Go to Update Your Profile and please select (near the bottom) that you "Want to searchable by teams in the upcoming 48 HR Film Project." Then, include your direct phone number that you can be accessed from Friday, July 27th, 7 PM to Sunday, July 29th, 7 PM.
  • Remember to include as many videos, headshots, etc. so that the teams can make fast decisions on how well you fit from looking at them. Every second counts.
  • And keep in mind, when one of the 100 teams (or several) find you, they'll need to get in touch with you ASAP. We will remind everyone the date is coming, so that you know to be available. For security, there will no access for anyone to phone numbers before or after the event. It will all turn on for just when the bell rings, and then deactivate at the end.

Very cool, very different type of opportunity. Many of the short films from last year also appeared throughout various regional and national film festivals, and a pretty good opportunity get exposure and become involved.
